On May 31, 1998, Pope John Paul II issued an apostolic letter called Dies Domini, in which he reflected on the importance of Sundays and of the Sunday Eucharistic celebration in the life of the Church. As Catholics throughout the Diocese of Lafayette prepare for the reinstatement of the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, it is important that we, too, reflect on the meaning and purpose of Sunday Mass.
